Ensign Laboratories is an Australian privately owned company, specialising in product development and contract manufacturing for many of Australia’s leading brand name products. Based on two sites in Melbourne’s south-east, the company has emerged a market leader in its core businesses. Incorporated in 1958, the company has grown from a humble back yard beginning to a thriving organisation with over 200 employees.

Ensign is founded in a Traralgon back yard with one product, Insectosol

1955 - Ensign founded by John Oswin Thornborrow

1958 – Ensign Laboratories Pty Ltd is incorporated on 17th January 1958

1958 – Ensign opens its factory in Brunswick, in Melbourne’s northern suburbs.

1964 - Ensign is the instigator and one of the founding members of the Australian   Aerosol Association.

1968 – Ensign’s Brunswick factory is destroyed by fire.

1969 – Ensign moves to its current 9 acre site in Mulgrave, Victoria

Personal care products are a new addition to Ensign’s growing capabilities.

1986 – Construction of a therapeutic filling & formulating building at the Mulgrave site.

Ensign expands in its commitment to product development, and continues to place greater emphasis on the personal care and therapeutic range.

1992 - Peter Thornborrow takes over as Managing Director

1993 – Ensign acquire a powder filling operation in Dandenong

1998 – Ensign acquires Amber Laboratories

1998 – Ensign’s Therapeutic building is expanded and remodeled.

Expansion and capital projects are occurring yearly. Ensign are ensuring its plant and equipment remain the best in the industry.

2000 – New quality control laboratories are completed
 
2002 – Ensign rebuild aerosol factory with new high speed Pamasol line.

2002 – New powder factory & distribution facility is purchased at Monash Dve Lyndhurst.

2003 – Ensign’s powder filling operation is moved to Monash Drive.

2005 – New R & D laboratories and Administration offices completed in August.

2006 – New Cosmetic filling area is completed

2006 – Ensign purchases the adjoining site, expanding the size of the property to 18 acres.

2008 – Ensign purchases Pharmaceutical Fillers, a sachet filling operation based in Sydney. The filling equipment is relocated to Ensign's Melbourne site.
