Ensign was the first manufacturer to deliver this product to the market in Australia and it was one of the company’s most difficult and rewarding achievements. This was an exceptionally complex formula to develop for several reasons. The first challenge was that it needed to be sufficiently dense and last long enough on the skin surface, while still providing effective sun protection. The second was that it did not wash off in water as water resistance is an essential criteria in the sunscreen category. Making a foam, such as for a shampoo, normally requires surfactants, which produce bubbles. When bubbles form, a product tends to wash off, which defeats the purpose of a water-resistant sunscreen. The task for the R&D team was to find the correct balance between water resistance and the formulation of the foam, while creating a product that would be pleasant and appealing for customers to use. After a two-year development process with many setbacks and triumphs, the winning formula was created. The product is currently marketed by several brands and has a loyal customer base in supermarkets and pharmacies worldwide. ## Frequently Asked Questions How do you ensure suncare products adhere to global standards and accreditations?
